Young Adult Librarian
Part-time, 19 hrs./wk. to include after school hours and some evenings. $18/hr.
Young Adult Librarian. A professional part-time position, reporting to the Library Director. Provide readerís advisory, reference, and instruction in library use, including computer resources, especially for users of the Young Adult collections, and for young adults using the other collections. Support other reference work as needed to maintain continuous professional service in the Library. Proactively develop the Young Adult collections for the informational, educational, and recreational interests of people in the middle to high school years. Assist in the ordering and cataloging of Young Adult collection materials. Create and present a variety of library activities and programs for young adults to promote reading and the use of library services. Perform outreach activities with middle and/or high schools and organizations in the community associated with young adults. Provide limited technical support for computer users. Focus on and advocate for the needs of young adults, and cooperate with all library staff to support the goals and objectives of the library as a whole. Perform other tasks as needed. Present a positive demeanor and convey a warm and respectful attitude to library users.
Qualifications: ALA-accredited Masterís Degree in Library Science. Exceptions may be made for enrollment in MLS program. Applicant must demonstrate interest in work with teenagers. Johnston residents preferred.
